Is Agent Coulson a zombie? No.
Recall Joss Whedon’s promotion of Zomney. Now he’s working on “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” which had great ratings for it’s first episode last week, but the second episode dropped some. Meanwhile, the actor Clark Gregg, who plays Agent Coulson, appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and they discussed how the Coulson character is alive after apparently being killed in “The Avengers” movie:
See: comicbook.com: “Jimmy Kimmel Live: Agent Coulson Could Be Jesus Or A Zombie” by Scott Johnson – and Enstarz: “‘Agents of SHIELD’ Clark Gregg Claims Agent Coulson’s a Zombie, Has ‘Hankering for Brains’ On ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ VIDEO” by Vanessa Frith:
Kimmel said, “You’re indestructible now. You’re like a zombie or something.”
Personally I think this new S.H.E.I.L.D. takes a lot from “Torchwood” and so Coulson is just Captain Jack Harkness. But, the question remains whether that’s just a Jesus figure – and whether Jesus was a type of zombie merely because he is resurrected (Buffy came back from dead too, was she a zombie?). Monster enthusiasts think that Jesus was a Lich. But from some perspectives, zombies are the more general category and include lich; the question of what is a zombie, and the way generic “zombie” consumes many monster-types, is part of the essential paradox of the zombie genre.
Meanwhile, it is hypothesized that Agent Coulson may be a life model decoy, or a robot, or a clone. But if he’s a clone from a dead person then maybe he’s a “ghola” (like Duncan Idaho from “Dune”). See this list of theories (and particularly the comments from users) at Hypable: “Coulson Lives!: 5 theories about how Agent Coulson survived” by Danielle Zimmerman.
Then consider the connection to Agent Smith of “The Matrix”. Agent Coulson of the comic books predates the Smith character and the ability for one government agent to magically appear everywhere and never die is a common theme.
And speaking of agents, see IBTimes: “FBI’s Christopher Tarbell – The Elliot Ness of Cyberspace who Busted Silk Road” by David Gilbert”
Having taken down Sabu and now Dread Pirate Roberts, FBI special agent Christopher Tarbell is showing himself to be the scourge of cybercriminals.
