World AIDS Day – ‘How to Survive a Plague’

December 1, 2012

Happy World AIDS Day. See yesterday in PBS NewsHour Rundown blog: Ray Suarez interviewed filmmaker David France whose new documentary “How to Survive a Plague”:

re-examines the in-your-face brand of AIDS activism that forced the nation to pay attention in the early days of the epidemic and eventually convinced the federal government to speed the approval of life-saving drugs.

No one uses the word “zombie” here but I would argue that this is very related to the themes of this ZombieLaw blog. My interests in zombies arose out of #Anonymous and #Occupy protests that surely take some tactical legacy from ActUP. Also the literal death and disease, the Albert Camus style plague, and the idea that social groups are constituted out of the spirit of times. Also it is interesting to think of the survivors as the zombies, lumbering on trying to make sense of the horror.
