Nicki Minaj be chilling with a zombie

September 11, 2012

Please allow me to take this moment to throw some Zombie Pride toward Nicki Minaj.

zombie nicki minaj

Nicki got herself wrapped into the Presidential election news cycle by rapping the following lyrics into Lil’ Waynes new song “Mercy”:
(notice that the line immediately after the Romney-economy is about zombies!):

I’m a Republican voting for Mitt Romney
You lazy bitches is fucking up the economy
Out in Miami I be chilling with a zombie
Diablo Alejandro dimelo Gandhi

Now for rap exegesis we turn to Rapgenius.com and find that the first two lines are dialogue and she is saying that the Republicans are lazy bitches (?), the third line is about the Miami zombie attacks, and the last line is possibly a reference to Lady Gaga’s song Alejandro and Gandhi means peace, like peace out.

But literally the first two lines don’t sound favorable for the President and President Obama was forced to explain these hip hop lyric this morning on a radio talk show:

and then Nicki confirmed the President’s interpretation:

“Thank you for understanding my creative humor & sarcasm Mr. President, the smart ones always do.”

Of course, in a climate where Wikipedia won’t accept Philip Roth’s claims about his own authorship, I am not sure that this is really the end. This an an era of zombie lies – can anyone really know their own intent?

This story is also funny because the Republicans were the ones making a big stink about their musical tastes on their ipods at the convention (but remember it was Obama who gave an ipod to the Queen).

This story is also funny because there is a bizarre irony in a President explaining that he understands subtext and double meaning.
