Democratic Party ‘like a soulless zombie’

August 2, 2012

The Kennebec Journal, daily paper in Augusta, Maine, has published an opinion piece declaring “King is not independent; Democrats should vote Dill“:

Prominent Democrats are supporting Angus King while they turn their backs on the party’s own candidate, Cynthia Dill.

Betraying the only progressive in the race, the Democratic Party reveals its hollow core. Like a soulless zombie, it gropes about in the dark for the plutocratic hand that feeds it. King is the right kind of candidate for the party.

The opinion then refers to King, former Maine governor, as “[a] nominal independent”, “an opportunist” and a “cynincal calculat[or]” concluding:

Just because King is not affiliated with a party does not mean he is not a party animal.

Note connection of “zombie” to “animal”, and also note that Fox News reported in May that King donated money to both the DNC and Obama’s re-election campaign:

On February 28, Sen. Olympia Snowe announced suddenly that she would not run for another term. On February 29, King made a $6,000 donation to the DNC.

Several days before that, he donated $10,000 to the Obama Victory Fund.

Recall also the Bob Hope joke from the 1940 movie The Ghost Breakers:

Montgomery: It’s worse than horrible because a zombie has no will of his own. You see them sometimes walking around blindly with dead eyes, following orders, not knowing what they do, not caring.

Lawrence: You mean like Democrats?
