Random Zombies in the News
Dan Brown writes in London Free Press: Meet London’s zombie master about new zombie author Mike Slabon, quoted:
Zombies are scary because they are animated dead. They wander around aimlessly. They threaten the existence of the living and take that life away if possible. Hmmm . . . kind of like society. How many people do you know who truly live life, as opposed to just going through the motions? Zombies are scary because they are real
Mentions: “consumption”, “depletion of resources”, pollution, global warming, anger, “those nightmares people describe where they try to run away, but their feet are glued”
Similarly, the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR) is reportedly referring to “zombie households” in explaining that “UK family debt won’t recover till 2019″. Because I am also interested in Ninja, I find it highly amusing to consider that so-called ninja loans (pejorative for loans to those with no income no job or assets) may have led to the creation of the UK zombie families. So here we have an direct instance of ninja becoming zombie because of the recent economic collapse.
Meanwhile, David Smith writes in The Westerly Sun: “I don’t want to be a zombie” about his fears of smart phones and zombie social media, location-identity sharing tools. Note the tone of this piece as an older person reflecting on technological changes. Note also the idea of a former expert (a ninja) rendered useless (zombied) by the development of new technologies. Smith’s fears about connectivity might be exaggerated but he concludes with a concern we should all share:
Let’s just hope I don’t have to pretend to be a zombie to retain my humanity.
In Europe, Prague, city of the Golem, BBC reports on the annual Czech zombie walk “Zombies take to the streets of Prague”, Zombie Walks (don’t forget to zombie stretch) are a now familiar attempt to express humanity. Recall also ZombieLaw post about Federal case of Baribeau v. City of Minneapolis
And in Sports, Yahoo Contributor Eric Holden has come up with two recent posts about 10 sports stars “likely to survive a zombie apocalypse” – that’s “Top five New York Mets likely to survive a zombie apocalypse” and “Top five New York Jets likely to survive a zombie apocalypse“
Finally. a word from a sponsor – Chevrolet says the Cruze is the car zombies fear most
